These connections are efficient in enabling a constant and reliable supply of power to offshore oil and gas platforms creating an environmentally favourable solution by avoiding the local power generation, typically diesel-based, on the platforms. As the power from the national grid is cheaper than diesel generated electricity in comparison, it’s also seen as an economically preferable option. We won ExxonMobil submarine cable contract
In 2013, Prysmian was awarded a contract for the supply and installation of submarine cables for a section of ExxonMobil’s existing offshore operations in the United States. The scope of work involved the replacement of approximately 50 km of submarine power cables with increased capacity 40 kV EPR submarine cables, designed for water depths of up to 450 metres. The cables will supply electric power from the existing shore-based generating plant to offshore platforms. Installation has been undertaken by our Cable Enterprise laying vessel. The Cable Enterprise underwent significant modification work in 2014 to be converted to a full Dynamically Positioned (DP) vessel in readiness for these installation works.
