Prysmian firmly believes that its strength is rooted in the quality and the talent of its people, therefore decided to engage all employees in the task of giving a name to its new cutting-edge cable laying vessel.

The challenge was to find a name that represented the vessel outstanding features, supporting the Group’s long-term growth and leadership in the submarine cable installation.

Around 1,700 applicants from all over the world suggested different names, a dedicated committee examined all the applications and finally chose the one that totally fits the requirement: Leonardo da Vinci.

A name that has its roots in Prysmian Group’s history and activity, being linked to engineeringscienceinnovationexcellence and Italy.

A tribute to the famous Italian genius, inventor, engineer, sculptor, architect, who is globally recognised as a leading figure of the European culture.

A suitable name for a vessel that will be the most advanced cable layer in the market and will reinforce Prysmian’s approach as a one-stop-shop solution provider, able to offer engineering, manufacturing, installation and full monitoring and diagnostic services, strengthening its leadership in the interconnection and offshore wind farm markets.
